A Wick care home has made a donation of more than £700 to a charity that takes elderly or less able people out for rides in a three-wheeled bike.

Seaview House is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, and the money came from Barchester’s staff lottery. It supports good causes as well as giving employees a chance to win cash prizes each month.

The care home welcomed George Ewing and Jane Cormack to a small gathering to receive the cheque for £744. George and Jane are part of Cycling Without Age, an international non-profit movement that aims to give older and disabled people access to the outdoors.

Gayle Magennis, general manager at Seaview House, said: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities. George, Jane and the team have given so much to our residents at Seaview over the years, giving them the opportunity to get out and about on trishaw bikes.

"This is particularly meaningful as the festive period approaches as our residents are given the chance to view the Christmas lights while enjoying the overall experience."

At least 45 per cent of all the lottery proceeds every other month are donated to Barchester's charitable foundation. For the alternate six months, at least 45 per cent of proceeds are donated to a local charity or community project as selected by a nominated care home or hospital.

"We are delighted that Seaview House has been selected to choose the recipient of the donation," Gayle said.

Seaview House provides nursing care, residential care and respite care.
