Wick 'boy racers' face new clampdown

Wick's riverside car park is to be closed at night.

A LAST stand against boy racers in Wick town centre is expected to come into force next week.

As the final option in a long-running struggle against anti-social motoring, gates are to be installed at Highland Council’s Riverside car park.

The gates are to be locked overnight by the Norseman Hotel, with staff re-opening the car park in the early morning.

Wick Councillor Gail Ross has been approached by a member of the public petitioning to not have the gates put in.

Business at the Norseman Hotel has reportedly been adversely affected by anti-social motorists meeting in the car park since new management took over several years ago.

An earlier option of installing speed bumps on the road between the car park and the hotel appeared to deter motorists from speeding but displaced them into the car park.
