The roof on the riverside boating shed in Wick is to be replaced after planning consent was granted by Highland Council.

The Wick Gala Committee, which uses the facility, wanted permission to replace the roof as it leaks.

A report compiled by a council planning official said: “The shed – built in the 1950s – was originally used for storage of rowing boats on the river but is now used to store equipment for use at various events run by the Wick Gala Committee.

“The roof is in a poor state of repair and leaks – the committee wish to replace with green box profile sheeting. It is considered that the materials to be used are acceptable and that permission be granted.”

It added that the proposal would not adversely affect the appearance of the existing building or the character of the surrounding area.

The application was approved subject to the new roof covering being in a dark colour with the existing roof pitch being retained.
