Wick author's productive lockdown sees her write three books

A former Wick resident and teacher at Thurso High School has used her lockdown time productively to complete three novels.

Julie Adams lives in Angus now and finished her latest work called Into The Woods after completing two previous titles made over the last year – a road trip novel called Malbister and her cold case crime novel, The Lapidary, set in Edinburgh and Budapest. All three books are available as ebooks and paperbacks on Amazon.

"I chose to set the new book in Perthshire because it’s an area I knew well from childhood as my aunts and grandmother lived in Killin," said Julie.

"However the woodland that inspired the title is at Hospitalfields, Arbroath, where I volunteer as a Paths For All walk leader. This book was developed from an idea I submitted in an Aberdeen Uni alumni event. I set out to write an Aga Saga, and a few pages in, realised this was going to be a family story with a dark secret at its heart."

Julie moved up to Caithness in 1971 as a secondary school pupil when her father, Ernie Adams became manager of Fred Shearer’s department store.

"Dad loved Caithness and when Fred Shearer was sold to Mackays, he started his own business, Fairways of Wick. I studied in Aberdeen and spent a year in the London civil service before doing teacher training and becoming an English teacher at Thurso High School.

"I left Caithness after my parents died, mainly to be closer to extended family and friends, and returned to my childhood location in Angus."

Julie loves the similarities between the two counties with the "same wonderful beaches and amazing countryside". She taught for two years after moving south, and then tutored for another two years before retiring.

The prolific author is currently working on a young adult novel set in Caithness and Sutherland, which will be published later this year.

Her books can all be purchased on Amazon and the latest title, Into the Woods, is available at www.amazon.co.uk/Into-Woods-Julie-Adams-ebook/dp/B094KXWM4P
