A NUMBER of information sessions are being offered next week to people in Caithness and Sutherland who may be interested in an innovative home working scheme.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has been working closely with Arise UK and its client, Shop Direct Group, to highlight the range of highly-skilled people available in the Far North. Now, the business is holding a programme of events across the area looking for those interested in flexible working from home.

Arise UK has already enabled a number of people across the wider Highlands and Islands to establish their own “virtual services corporation”. Individuals are then linked through Arise to deliver customer services to large companies, such as Shop Direct.

Joyce MacLennan, the head of financial and business services at HIE, said: “Working from home is a model which is likely to offer considerable opportunities to people across the Highlands and Islands.

“There are benefits to the employer, in terms of reduced costs and carbon emissions, and increased flexibility, and it provides exciting prospects for workers, particularly in remote areas where transport can be a problem.”

Sessions are being held in various parts of Caithness and Sutherland next week, including at the Norseman Hotel in Wick on Monday from 2.30pm to 4pm and 6.30pm to 8pm.

On Tuesday, sessions will be run at the Pentland Hotel, Thurso, from 9.30am to 11am and 6.30am to 8pm, and the Tongue Hotel from 2pm to 3.30pm.

On Wednesday, a similar event is being held at the Assynt Leisure Centre, Lochinver, from 2pm to 4pm.
