ON a lovely summer day last week the staff of the Highland and Island Enterprise (HIE) were out of the Thurso office to lend a hand to Wick Riverside Volunteers. HIE supports staff members to volunteer during working hours as part of their commitment to community engagement.

Everyone rolled up their sleeves and helped to paint benches, weed flowerbeds and clear paths. Ruth Falconer, who helps with Wick Riverside Volunteers, said: “What a massive difference they made and the riverside now looks beautiful. What a wonderful Caithness spirit.”

She was keen to highlight the support and donations of material from McAllan’s paint shop, O’Brien Construction, Birons Ironmongers, the wood yard, Highland Council, North Highland Harriers and Caithness Voluntary Group.

Catherine Patterson from Caithness Voluntary Group said: "If you are a business able to offer corporate support to a community group, please contact us and we will be happy to liaise with everyone to make a difference to their local area."

CVG, based at Telford House in Williamson Street, Wick, can be contacted on 01955 603453.
