Local churches are set to come together in Wick and Thurso to celebrate the annual World Day of Prayer.

The international, inter-church organisation led by women invites everyone – men, women and young people – to join together in prayer and action for peace and justice.

This year the service has been written by the Christian women of Palestine, who have chosen as their theme: “Bear with one another in love”.

The Day of Prayer is celebrated in over 146 countries. It begins in Samoa and prayers in native languages travel throughout the world before finishing in American Samoa some 38 hours later.

In Thurso, the local churches will come together at 2pm on Friday, March 1 to celebrate the event.

All are welcome to come along for the service and the chance to chat over coffee and cakes afterwards.

Meanwhile, a service will be held at Wick St Fergus Church at 2.30pm on the same day.
