Wick's Whitechapel Road is to be closed for four weeks while work takes place on a pedestrian crossing installation scheme.

The temporary measure comes into effect at 9am on Monday, May 17, and will remain in place until 5pm on Friday, June 11.

Highland Council announced that U3664 Whitechapel Road will be closed between its junction with the A99 on High Street and its junction with U3591 Miller Lane. The local authority says the closure is necessary to create a safe working area to allow for the construction of a raised table – a raised section of the road surface for the installation of a pedestrian crossing as part of the Spaces for People initiative.

To avoid the closed section, the alternative route is via High Street, U3494 St Fergus Road and U3591 Miller Lane.
