White-lining should be completed within the next month at Wick’s Bridge Street mini-roundabout, with Highland Council calling it a “high priority”.

The main road through the town centre was resurfaced by the council in July, to the relief of many drivers, but some sections remain unlined – leading to concerns over the potential for traffic accidents.

Bridge Street forms part of the North Coast 500 tourist route and five streets converge at the mini-roundabout.

The issue was brought up at this week’s meeting of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council by treasurer Joanna Coghill.

She was aware of some “near misses” at the mini-roundabout.

Mrs Coghill explained later: “It’s mainly drivers unfamiliar with the area. The roads have been re-tarred now for some time, which is absolutely great, so I’m not sure why it is taking so long to do the lines.”

A Highland Council spokesperson said: “We are hoping to mobilise the white-lining squad in the next month, weather permitting, and this location is a high priority.”
