Wick's Pulteney Distillery has come up with a dram good idea to help people escape the confines of their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

The distillery team has produced a video soundtrack which will transport viewers from the couch to the coast of Caithness. It is described as "a novel way to relieve cabin fever" during the restrictions imposed by the virus.

The 15-minute video is designed to help people enjoy the benefits of blue space – the popular theory that being near water can improve overall wellbeing – even if they can't get there in person. It features the sound of lapping waves and the chirping of local wildlife.

Wick has been the home of Old Pulteney since 1826.

The soundtrack from Couch to Coast is set against footage of golden beaches and towering cliffs in an area which is a key destination on the North Coast 500 route. Wick has been the home of Old Pulteney whisky since 1826.

Malcolm Waring, the manager at Pulteney Distillery, said: "We are fortunate to be able to enjoy the sea breeze while still adhering to the important job of social distancing at home in Wick.

"It’s just the ticket for cabin fever, but we know lots of people just can’t get to the coast right now. That’s why we wanted to bring a taste of the sea to all, transporting people to the tranquil sights and sounds of the home of the Maritime Malt.

"It’s especially useful for those who are adjusting to working from home. It’s hard to switch off from a long day at the office when the office is your house but our Couch to Coast soundtrack is the perfect antidote."

The video is on the Old Pulteney website as well as YouTube. Listen to the Couch to Coast soundtrack at https://www.instagram.com/oldpulteneymalt
