More than £10,000 has been raised for good causes from a series of whisky-tasting nights.

The latest tasting session at the Nethercliffe Hotel in Wick resulted in £2225 being handed over to Wick RBLS Pipe Band.

Mervyn Hill runs the hotel along with his wife Helen, who is the pipe band secretary.

“The whisky-tasting nights take place maybe two or three times a year and this was the fifth one,” Mervyn explained.

“The first, in August 2019, was in Bilbster hall and the other four have been in the hotel. Between the five we have raised £10,150.

“We are limited to about 25 to 27 people. We have a small group of malt whisky enthusiasts who like to try different malts, so between us and friends it is always usually fully subscribed.

“We usually do 10 drams on the night, all with a different food or snack pairing to suit the whisky. At half-time we have mince and tatties or stovies or haggis.

“We also run a raffle on the night and sometimes a raffle in the bar to raise a bit more money.”
