Two competitive event riders who swapped their horses for bikes have completed their cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Maddy Moffett and Jo Bednall were delighted to arrive at their final destination on Thursday afternoon (July 8), along with Jo's husband Clive who did the meticulous route planning and drove the camper van.

The two friends have raised over £5000 for three different charities – Air Ambulance, Lupus UK and World Horse Welfare.

On completion of the journey which took 12 days and covered 934.3 miles, Maddy said: "For us LeJog has been a great challenge, with the highs definitely outweighing the low moments – what started as a crazy idea during lockdown became a reality and we’ve been blown away with how much money we’ve been able to raise for three great charities.

"Scotland was definitely a real highlight for us – your country is stunning and it was a great way to see it on a bike. We can’t quite believe we have done it – what an adventure. There have been tough moments and aches and pains, but lots of laughs, great moments and amazing memories."

They could not have asked for a better last day with the weather staying good as they completed the last leg from Golspie to John O'Groats. They found the scenery on the last part of the route stunning despite the long pull up Berriedale. Once in Caithness they cycled up to Lybster before heading up through Camster taking the back roads as they completed the journey.

While in John O'Groats they took time to take photos, celebrate with cake and have a stroll round the local shops.

Clive, who did the meticulous route planning, was able to enjoy a scenic cycle on his own on Thursday evening from John O'Groats to Sibster, Wick, where they all rested up for the night before heading back home.
