A post office worker put a package aside after she got a strong smell of cannabis from it, Wick Sheriff Court heard last week.

Police were contacted and they later arrested Alexander Fraser. The 30-year-old admitted to having been involved in the supply of drugs.

He was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work and will be under supervision.

Fiscal depute Grant McLennan said that CCTV at Thurso Post Office confirmed Fraser as the sender of the recorded delivery package, on January 27, 2022. It contained three phials of tetrahydrocannabinol, a Class B drug.

Police officers who searched Fraser's home in Burnbraes Road, Weydale, recovered a mobile phone and other items valued at between £2000 and £3000.

Solicitor Graeme Cunningham said that Fraser had since addressed his cannabis addiction and added: “I have represented him for a long time and on the last few occasions he has not appeared smelling of substances.”
