Week-long virtual show by Papigoe artist inspired by waves
An artist living by a coastal hamlet near Wick is currently hosting an online exhibition that runs until Sunday (September 19).
Lisa Weller, who lives at Haven House in Papigoe, is having live daily video tours, exclusive behind the scenes footage and special discounts on all art work for this week only.
"During this activity led week you will be given exclusive insights into my studio practice, be given online demonstrations, taken on tours of the far north Scottish landscape, and be given the opportunity to interact and ask questions," said Lisa. "There may even be live traditional music, some Highland dancing and some bagpipes throughout the week."
Lisa's latest paintings have been inspired by the coastal scenes she observes from Haven House and she explained how this development led to her using her married name of McDonald to distinguish this new body of work.
"I married Gordy [McDonald] eight years ago but kept painting in acrylics as Lisa Weller of Haven House Art. And then three years ago these big waves began to show up on the canvas in direct response to living and settling into our cliff-side house in Papigoe.
"They were so powerful and different to the acrylic work that I wanted a new persona for them so I create them in my married name of Lisa McDonald. They are also created in oils, not acrylics because of the gloss that oil paints provide and classic technique of wet over dry suits them well. I still paint and teach art classes as Lisa Weller too."

Throughout this week, Lisa will be going live on her Lisa McDonald Facebook page every day to not only exhibit her wave paintings but also showcase the Caithness landscape. "We have such rich heritage here in the far north and I am proud to show it off."
Lisa says she was restricted in exhibiting her work at galleries due to Covid-19 and lockdown so she began to explore other methods of reaching potential clients and now has followers from all over the world.
"We held our first virtual exhibition in November of last year, combining both the acrylic and oils, which was very successful. This year I have chosen to focus solely on the waves, although at some point I am sure there will be another virtual exhibition for the Haven House Art work too."
The online show culminates in a live exhibition evening and there will be a discount of 20 per cent on all works throughout the week.
