FANS are set to get a taster of the Far North’s biggest music festival when several of its acts take to the stage at an intimate venue this weekend.

Wee B is a brand new mini festival which will be held over two days involving several of the musicians and bands lined up for Bfest this summer.

With The Proclaimers headlining this year’s festival at the Riverside in Wick, it already promises to be the biggest and best yet, with around 3000 people expected to attend over two days beginning on Friday, August 10.

Organisers will be giving festival-goers a sneak preview of this year’s line-up at the Blackstairs Lounge in Wick where several acts will be performing in the premises’ new beer garden and inside the venue itself during the evening.

Bfest founder Ryan Cook told the John O’Groat Journal that since Bfest began in 2010, it had gone from strength to strength.

He said that there had been so much interest generated from this year’s line-up that Wee B had been introduced to satisfy public demand.

He added: “This has been designed as a warm-up for Bfest to let locals know what they can look forward to in August. There has been a lot of talk about this year’s festival and Wee B will hopefully get people in the mood for what promises to be the best one yet.

“It will also coincide with the opening of our new beer garden and a number of acts will be playing outdoors during the afternoon.

“With the weekend looking to be the hottest of the year, it should be a great two days.”

Glasgow-based LightGuides are set to headline the event on Saturday along with other up-and-coming bands such as Penguins Kill Polar Bears and KOBI.

Caithness-based artists such as Oskar Empire, Crazy Cottage and Sid Davidson will also appear on stage.

Sunday too promises to be a great day for music with Inverness-based Iain McLaughlin & The Outsiders, who were one of the highlights of Bfest 2011, set to headline in the evening along with local acts The Maydays and Always the Sixth.

In the beer garden on Sunday afternoon Jamie Reid, Sheppy and Megan Blyth will be on stage performing some tunes to enjoy a drink with.

Tickets are still available for Wee B and can be bought at the Blackstairs Lounge in Wick.
