Webinars to look at cyber security issues for Highland businesses

Business leaders and the police are to discuss issues surrounding cyber security as remote working increases due to coronavirus.
The Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) is hosting two free webinars – on May 13 and 27 – to discuss how organisations based in the Highlands and Islands can ensure their businesses are cyber-resilient.
Advisers including ethical hackers will share information on the most up-to-date cyber threat landscape and detail methods to improve resilience and communicate securely with staff.
The panel for both events will include representatives from Stornoway Chamber of Commerce and the Scottish Government Cyber Resilience Unit as well as Police Scotland cyber protection officers.
Both hour-long webinars are being delivered on behalf of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and supported by the Scottish Government, the National Cyber Security Centre, Police Scotland and Business Gateway.
SBRC chief executive Jude McCorry said: “So many businesses have moved operations online as we all do our part to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
"However, moving business online naturally increases the risk of cyber threats – many of us have had to rapidly learn new tools and applications that don’t always have the same level of security we’ve grown to expect.
“These webinars are a fantastic opportunity for business leaders throughout the Highlands and Islands to ensure they have the capability to keep their operations secure and ongoing.”
Steven Hutcheon, interim regional head of innovation and technology at HIE, said: “SBRC has recently delivered cyber resilience workshops across the region and these webinars build on that awareness-raising to date.
"With support from the Scottish Government Cyber Resilience Unit, we will continue to provide businesses in the region with cyber security specialist advice throughout these challenging times.”
The webinars will take place at 10am on May 13 and May 27 and are open to all small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Highlands and Islands.
