Ferries linking Caithness and Orkney have reported disruptions to services today (Monday, October 10) due to adverse weather conditions.

The MV Hamnavoe, run by Northlink Ferries, is currently berthed in Stromness and "due to forecasted adverse weather conditions the AM sailings are now cancelled", it states on the website.

NorthLink Ferries sail from Scrabster to Stromness and the 90 minute crossing takes place up to three times a day. The company states that afternoon sailings are currently under review with a "possibility of cancellation" and more detailed updates will follow as forecasts are updated.

Northlink Ferries state that more information is available by phoning 0800 111 4422 (Free from UK landlines and mobile) or +44(0) 1856 885500 (International).

Services on the route between Gills Bay and St Margaret’s Hope run by Pentland Ferries are also cancelled this morning and in the early afternoon.

Pentland Ferries apologised for the inconvenience and directed customers to its website at: pentlandferries.co.uk/

The company states that updates will be provided throughout the day for the evening crossing, which will be under review.
