Watten farmer among the judges at Royal Welsh Show
Watten farmer Alan Simpson will be among the judges at next week's Royal Welsh Show, described by the organisers as the pinnacle event in the British agricultural calendar.
He will be judging North Country Cheviots at the four-day show at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, Mid Wales, starting on Monday.
Mr Simpson farms around 180 acres in two holdings at Cairnside and Oldhall, Watten. He established his flock of 40 pedigree North Country Cheviots in 1991 and also runs a flock of 160 commercial ewes.
Notable successes on the local show and sale circuit include a shearling tup win at the 2012 Caithness County Show with the home-bred Cairnside Northern Light.
In 2020 he lifted a cheque of £4100 from an Irish breeder for selling Cairnside Anchorman.

Mr Simpson scooped first and second in the Cheviot ewe lamb class, going on to be placed reserve female champion, at this year's County Show.
The Royal Welsh Show is organised by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and is now in its 102nd year. The show attracts more than 200,000 visitors over four days.
