Pupils at a Caithness primary school were "buzzing" after performing the sing-along hit Sweet Caroline for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

A video shared on social media shows the children at Keiss joining together in an energetic, flag-waving rendition of the Neil Diamond classic which was chosen by BBC Radio 2 listeners as the soundtrack to jubilee street parties.

P6/7 teacher Gill Munro organised it with support from the rest of the Keiss team.

She explained: “A parent in the school got in touch with me about Sweet Caroline. I spoke to the head teacher [Fraser Thomson] and he gave me the go-ahead, then I spoke to the other teachers and the rest of the school team and they said 'yes, let's go for it'.

“I'm really surprised at how quickly the kids learnt the words. They were absolutely buzzing to do it.

"We took them out, filmed it and uploaded it onto Twitter.

“It was a whole team effort but it couldn't have happened without Mr Thomson being on board, and the rest of the staff, and the kids especially. They just blew me away – they were amazing.”

Miss Munro added: “There's one child in the centre who gives the thumbs-up – that was especially for Her Majesty the Queen. The kids are convinced that the Queen is going to be looking at every video that's uploaded and that she is going to notice us.”

The song was chosen by listeners of Zoe Ball's Radio 2 Breakfast Show as an uplifting melody that everyone can sing at street parties marking the Queen's 70-year reign.
