Warning of strong winds – may cause disruption in Caithness tonight

The Met Office issued a bulletin this morning with a Yellow Warning for very strong winds affecting Caithness this evening.

The warning states that some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

Issued at 8.32am this morning, the bulletin states: "A brief spell of very strong winds will affect Caithness, Orkney and Fair Isle late on Wednesday evening.

"West or southwesterly winds will gust to 65mph at times, and perhaps around 75mph along exposed coasts. The strongest of the winds will quickly move away eastwards during the early hours of Thursday."
