A new community warm space initiative, organised by the Sinclair's Bay Trust, has been well received with attendance steadily increasing.

The project, which got up and running on January 18, has been funded by Highland Council and is being supported by the Caithness Voluntary Group.

Trust chairperson Maysie Calder said: "The first two weeks have been well received. The numbers are steadily increasing with well attended sessions in Reiss in particular.

"It’s a great opportunity to meet folks in an informal way – lovely community spirit felt at the events with newspapers, games and quizzes available for use. A great afternoon’s free entertainment for all ages."

She pointed out that the sessions, held in the village halls in Keiss, Reiss and Staxigoe, were open to all residents in the Sinclairs Bay area and that there was still plenty of room for more people to come along.

Feedback from the afternoons has been positive, with one of the attendees saying: “Thoroughly enjoyed another day at Reiss today. Coffee, soup and sandwiches. Meeting old and new friends. Great time.”

A wide range of ages, from teenagers to people in their nineties, have been in attendance during the first two weeks of the warm space project.

Sessions will take place again next week in Keiss on Wednesday, Staxigoe on Thursday and Reiss on Friday. They run from 10am to 2pm.

The warm space project will continue to run until March 10.
