Walking group is back on its feet in Thurso
A walking group has taken to the streets again after a brief break over Christmas and the beginning of the new year.
The Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) started the group last year as a way to encourage members of the community to stay active and stay in touch with each other.
Walks are chosen taking into account any mobility restraints and ability levels of those taking part, with the aim that everyone who attends is able to have an enjoyable night.
The walking group meets every Monday at 6.30pm in front of the trust's office building, above the Socially Growing shop in the precinct.
Walks are usually led by a member of TCDT, although some members of the walking group have begun training with the Paths for All initiative to become ‘Walk Leaders’, empowering them to lead walks when staff are unavailable and making the group self-sustainable.

Development Officer Zoe Mackenzie said: “It’s been great to see our walk group members come forward to be walk leaders, we’re delighted to see our walk members helping out.”
After each walking group, there is a relaxed social time in the TCDT office space with tea and coffee served.
