An appeal has gone out for any volunteers willing to join in a summer spruce-up planned for Wick ahead of the town's annual gala week.

Organiser Allan Bruce is hoping it will be as successful as last year when more than 50 volunteers carried out a range of tasks around the town centre and riverside.

Anyone willing to help is asked to meet in the car park opposite the Norseman Hotel on Tuesday, July 18, at 6.30pm.

Mr Bruce, who is vice-chairman of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council, said: “Hopefully we'll get a decent turnout.

"Gala week draws thousands of people into the centre of the town, especially on floats night, so it is really just to give a bit of a freshen-up to our town centre.

“Also a lot of people come home for gala week – a lot of people put it in their diaries and come back to Wick. We want the place to be looking its best, because at the end of the day the gala committee put in a tremendous amount of work organising all these events.

"Last year more than 50 people turned out to help and it really did make a difference to our town. There's a job everybody, a job for all abilities.”

Wick Gala Week takes place from July 22-29.
