A TWO-day visit to Caithness by a Scottish tourism boss has been described as “a great opportunity for the area”.

Andrew Mackay, who owns the Norseman in Wick and the Castletown Hotel, is delighted Dr Mike Cantlay, the chairman of VisitScotland, is coming to the Far North.

“This is a real coup to have him here and we should grasp the opportunity with both hands,” said Mr Mackay.

Dr Cantlay will be accompanied on his trip by Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland’s regional partnerships director, north. They will be in Caithness on Thursday and Friday.

They will visit John O’Groats to see the beginnings of the multi-million revamp before travelling to the Pulteney Distillery in Wick. They will later have a dinner with local businessmen in Mackays Hotel.

On Friday, they will take part in an event called “Making Things Happen for Tourism in Caithness & Sutherland”.

It will feature a number of workshops and provide a chance for people to discuss opportunities, issues and priorities for their individual organisation and for Caithness and Sutherland as a destination.
