PENNYLAND Primary pupils have become the stars of Aldi’s new TV advert which promotes local seafood.

The advert, which has been airing this month, features the Thurso students who go on a field trip to Scrabster Harbour to learn about how and where the supermarket’s fish is sourced.

During the 40-second commercial, the youngsters visit the shore to see the day’s catch arrive and ask an employee from Aldi’s supplier, Campbells, about the fish that’s landed.

Pennyland teacher Fiona MacDonald said: “The children were very excited to be asked to star in Aldi’s new TV advert.

“Not only did the children love their time in the limelight, they also really enjoyed visiting Scrabster and learning all about where fish comes from.

“It’s definitely very important for children to know where their food comes from and it is something we support at the school.

“I’m very proud of all the children involved and I enjoyed being in the advert myself – even if it was only my back that was featured.”

The advert also stars Thurso actress Helen Mackay, who plays the students’ teacher.

She has starred in a number of stage and radio productions as well as made a television appearance on Rab C Nesbitt and will also be appearing in DCI Banks in the spring.
