Victorian-style photo opportunities on offer again at Wick museum’s New Year open day
Members of the public will again be able to have their pictures taken in Victorian-style period costume when Wick Heritage Museum hosts its New Year open day.
The museum in Bank Row is normally open from April to October, but on January 2 each year people are invited in to view the extensive range of artefacts and displays, enjoy some live music and catch up with old acquaintances.
Visitors will be welcomed from 11am to 4pm on Thursday. Admission is free, with donations welcome.
It is customary for local musicians to pop in to play a few tunes. Addie Harper will be there again and he hopes to be joined by Joanne Sutherland.
As well as showcasing local heritage, the open day is a popular social occasion and an opportunity to catch up with old friends.

The chance to have a photo session in the museum’s replica Johnston photographic studio has become an increasingly popular feature of the New Year event.
Fergus Mather will again be taking photographic portraits in authentic 19th-century style, assisted by other volunteers who are on hand to help individuals or family groups choose suitable attire. Everyone who poses for a photo is then able to get a print of it.
A raffle will be drawn on the day.
The museum is run by volunteers from the Wick Society, which was founded in 1971 to protect and promote the town’s history.
The society now has four sections. These are the museum itself; the boat team, which looks after the historic Isabella Fortuna; the Johnston photographic section; and Wick Voices, the online oral history project.
