UPDATE: Man in hospital after crash closes A9 in Caithness near Georgemas Junction

A man was taken to hospital after a crash closed the A9 both ways near Georgemas Junction for several hours yesterday.

The crash, which involved one car, occurred at around 2pm on Saturday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson, speaking shortly after 4.30pm, said: “We were called to a report of a one car crash on the A9 near the Georgemas junction.

“Emergency services attended and a man was taken to Caithness General Hospital for treatment.

“The A9 at Georgemas Junction is currently closed in both directions. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Traffic Scotland had initially identified the crash site as being in Thurso.

But later updates from both them and the police confirmed that the crash actually occurred near Georgemas.

The road was closed for around three hours, with Traffic Scotland later posting at 5.12pm to confirm the route had reopened.
