Staff and students from UHI North Highland’s professional cookery and hospitality department have made donations to two charities with money raised earlier this year from an event in the college’s canteen.

Hot and cold lunch options were offered to college staff, students and members of the public in return for a small donation.

The event raised £200 and has been split equally between Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) and German Shepherd Rescue Scotland. Both charities were chosen by the students.

Professional cookery lecturer Shirley Duffy was pleased with the response from the public. She said: “We are delighted so many people made generous contributions for the lunches they received and we were able to give donations to two very worthy charities.”

Sharon Dismore, of TCDT, said: “We are so grateful to the college, Shirley and her students for this generous donation to the community gardens. We have been lucky enough to work for three consecutive years with the students at the college and we are so delighted that they chose the community gardens and our project as one of the recipients of their donation."
