TWO-way traffic has been restored to Berriedale Braes.

There have been traffic lights in operation on the A9 since a lorry carrying a 120-ton transformer crashed at the north hairpin bend at the beginning of April.

Following the demolition of a retaining wall, motorists had to put up with weeks of single file traffic but the traffic lights have been removed now that the wall has been repaired.

Landward Caithness Highland Councillor Willie Mackay said: “At last the Berriedale Braes are back in business. Now let’s hope a start to the planned hairpin realignment will move up the Transport Scotland agenda with great haste.”
