A jury is to try two Wick men on a charge of serious assault to the danger of a teenager's life.

Graham Bain (32) of Kinnaird Street and 19-year-old David Anderson, of Macrae Street, both Wick, pleaded not guilty at Wick Sheriff Court on today.

The indictment alleges that, while acting with others in Macrae Street, on August 20 last year, they struck a 17-year-old youth on the head with an unknown weapon causing him to fall to the ground and then repeatedly struck him on the head with a knife or similar implement, to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.

The teenager cannot be named.

The case was continued until August 17 when the court will be given an update on trial preparations.

A joint minute of agreed evidence is under consideration.

If the two accused adhere to their not guilty pleas, their trial will take place at Inverness Sheriff Court on a date to be fixed.
