A9 closed both ways at Skelbo, near Dornoch, part of the North Coast 500, following a two-car crash; Police Scotland said emergency services were in attendance at the Sutherland site

Emergency crews are in attendance after a two-car crash closed the A9 both ways close to Skelbo, near Dornoch.

The collision occurred at around 1.30pm on Friday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson, speaking shortly after 2.30pm, said: “The A9 is closed in both directions at Skelbo, near Dornoch, following a two-car crash which happened around 1.30pm on Friday.

“Emergency services are in attendance and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Traffic Scotland has also advised motorists to “approach with caution and expect delays”.

The crash is the second to close a Highland trunk road on Friday, with an earlier collision on the A87 blocking the road both ways at Loch Cluanie.

That crash was reported to police at around 11.25am, and the road was still shut at the time of writing at 2.45pm..
