TWELVE passengers were involved in a crash which saw a Stagecoach bus skid off the road and tumble down an embankment on the outskirts of Halkirk.

Fire crews from Thurso and Wick were called out to the B874 Halkirk to Thurso road at 9:58am when the accident took place.

It is believed the collision occurred due to icy weather conditions on Saturday morning.

One person is reported to have suffered back injuries and has been transported to hospital.

All other passengers were checked over at the scene and helped up the embankment by emergency crews on to the road.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two crews from Thurso and one from Wick were called to the scene."

"At least one person has been taken to hospital after suffering back injuries."
