Trophy joy for nine-year-old Parasportsperson of the Year Pebbles Sawyer from Spittal

Parasportsperson of the Year, nine-year-old Pebbles Sawyer, received her trophies after winning the title at the Caithness Sports Council awards.

Pebbles, from Spittal, is a popular member of the Caithness branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). She was presented with her trophies by Innis Mahon, who was the immediate past previous winner.

Also in the picture is branch secretary Liz Hewitson, who nominated Pebbles, and fellow coach Steph Cowe, who is holding Poppy, a five-year-old coloured pony.

The presentation of the Caithness Sports Council award was made at the indoor riding centre in Halkirk on Tuesday.

Ms Hewitson said: “Pebbles gains fun, achievement and therapy at riding sessions.

“She has the most amazing smile that can be seen when she’s riding, showing just how much she loves the sport.

“She shows such independence when mounting from the hydraulic platform and then sits up so well and is so determined to give her best during her riding sessions.”
