Members of the public are being invited to take part in a series of tree-planting days at a community woodland outside Wick.

Friends of Newtonhill Woodland will run the events on three Saturdays next month – March 5, 19 and 26, with morning and afternoon sessions (10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm).

In a message to its supporters, the group stated: "We will receive our annual batches of trees from Forestry and Land Scotland and the Woodland Trust in early March. This year we are inviting the public back to help plant after two years when we couldn’t."

Equipment and tuition will be provided and families are welcome.

Those willing to take part are asked to bring gloves and suitable outdoor footwear as well as a refreshing drink.

The group says: "Everyone is most welcome to come along and lend a little help to add some more trees to those already growing. Come and help combat climate change.

"This year some people may wish to plant a tree to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and we have a plot for this."

The group is on Facebook at Friends of Newtonhill Woodland.
