Traill Hall future to be decided at meeting

A MEETING will take place this Saturday evening (September 28) to try and decide the future of the Traill Hall in Castletown.

The historic building was gifted to the village as a public hall and reading room in 1867 by Margaret Traill, whose father Sheriff James Traill started the local flagstone industry, but it has been lying empty for years despite efforts to bring it back into community use. The meeting is being held to decide what to do with the building.

George Gunn, chairman of the Traill Hall Community Trust, said one of the options would be to sell the property and give the proceeds to organisations in Castletown. He said the hall needs extensive repairs and stressed that attempts to get funding to turn it into a community asset have been unsuccessful.

"The building belongs to the village. We are only the trustees, so we are having a meeting to consider its future," he added.

The meeting will be held in the Castlehill Heritage Centre at 7pm.
