Traffic lights set up at Scrabster after landslip

TEMPORARY traffic lights have been set up on the A9 near Scrabster Harbour after debris from a slope above the trunk road reached the fence next to the carriageway on Thursday morning.

While no debris reached the A9, the temporary traffic lights have been added to the road as a precaution until the slope can be assessed by geotechnical specialists.

A temporary barrier will also be installed on the road as a precautionary measure.

Around 50 tonnes of debris is thought to have moved on the slope.

BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative Eddie Ross said: “Safety is a top priority so we’ve added the temporary traffic signals and temporary barrier to the road as a precaution while teams assess the slope next to the road.

“We will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum and keep all relevant stakeholders informed of any progress. We encourage road users to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information.”

Hundreds of tonnes of earth fell in a landslide from the cliff face in March which forced the closure of one lane for months.
