Essential road improvements on the A9 dual carriageway north of Allangrange to the Tore Roundabout will begin on Sunday.

The work is expected to last for four weeks and road users are being warned of likely delays.

The works are being carried out by BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, to resurface 1100 metres of the northbound carriageway and improve road drainage, creating safer journeys for motorists.

All improvements will be completed by 6am on Saturday, April 1, BEAR says.

The works will be undertaken in three stages:

Stage 1

Between Sunday, March 5 and Friday, March 10 (five nights), there will be an overnight northbound lane closure from 7pm to 6am, with a 50mph speed limit in place for safety.

Stage 2

From Saturday, March 11, the lane closure will be in place 24 hours a day until 6am on Saturday, April 1 with a 50mph speed limit in place for safety.

During this stage, delays to A9 northbound traffic are expected during peak evening times. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and advised to consider altering their journey route or timing.

Stage 3

From Sunday, March 12 to Friday, March 31, between 7pm and 6am each night, there will be a convoy system in place for safety with a 10mph speed limit on the northbound carriageway.

Restrictions will also be in place on the south side of Tore Roundabout during these times.

Drivers entering the roundabout from the A9 southbound, the A835 or the A832 westbound, wishing to travel on either the A835 towards Dingwall or A832 towards Muir of Ord, will be required to divert via the A9 Charlestown Junction.

Eddie Ross urges road users to plan ahead and consider alternate routes where possible.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “This road improvement project on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The traffic management arrangements are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We have scheduled the works to take place at a quieter time of year, before the busy tourism season begins and after winter to avoid delays due to bad weather where we can.

"However, delays are likely and we encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project.”
