Wick will get a visit from literary agent, Jenny Brown.

WICK is to be visited by Jenny Brown who is one of Scotland’s leading literary agents.

She will be giving a talk entitled “Writers in the driving seat? Steering your way through the new publishing era” at the town’s St Fergus Gallery on Thursday at 7pm. The previous evening she will be undertaking a similar engagement in Skye.

The events have been organised by HI-Arts and are part of its writing development programme which provides support to writers across the Highlands and Islands.

Programme manager Peter Urpeth pointed out publishing and the book trade in general are changing rapidly.

Some of these changes have been accelerated by digital publishing, e-reading and the growth of self-publishing opportunities. Other changes have come as reading habits have changed and book buying has in some sectors declined.

“For new writers, those trying to get their work published, these changes can be very confusing and I cannot think of a time when it has been as difficult for writers to find an agent or a publisher. Indeed, the traditional roles of the agent and publisher are also changing rapidly,” he said.

“In these talks Jenny Brown will inform us of what all this means for writers, and will give insights into this changing landscape that will hopefully help authors to navigate their way forwards in a new and complex publishing environment full of new opportunities.”

The events are free.
