THIS festive season a hardy group of Thurso women and children will be taking the plunge to help children suffering from cancer.

After the success of last year’s event, Team Lovely is getting ready to dip into the Pentland Firth all over again to raise money for CLIC Sargent at the Boxing Day Dip.

And this year, members are encouraging as many people as possible to join them in the festive paddle.

The first-ever Caithness Boxing Day Dip which took place in Thurso Bay last year raised an incredible £18,000 when over 100 people braved the subzero temperatures.

Team Lovely was crowned the best fundraising team at the event when it collected £2560.

Undeterred by their exposure to the chilly waters of the Pentland Firth, six of the team are back to launch this year’s event and have also enlisted the help of seven children.

Team organiser Laura Sutherland has been working tirelessly to promote this year’s event by encouraging other groups, work teams and families to rise to the challenge.

She urged the public in the Far North to join them on Boxing Day and show what people in Caithness are made of.

“Last year’s event was simply amazing – we had a load of laughs and were delighted at the support we received,” she said.

“This year, some of our children will be taking part and are all really excited about doing it. They are proud that they are helping raise money for children suffering from cancer.”

The group will be out with collection buckets in Thurso tomorrow dressed as Santa’s elves raising money for charity.

The dip is being organised by the local CLIC Sargent fundraising group and will take place at 2pm on Boxing Day at Thurso Bay, with registration open from 1pm at the Salvation Army Hall.

Registration forms are available at McAllan’s in Thurso and Wick where sponsor packs can also be picked up.

There is no cost in registering and participants are asked to try and raise a minimum of £50.

Anyone who raises over £40 will receive a CLIC Sargent T-shirt and there will be prizes awarded for best fundraisers, best company team and best fancy dress.
