The BT Thurso team promoted the day through a Lots of Socks event in which they were encouraged to purchase the official WDSD socks and to wear these on the day.

More than 60 orders were placed to the charity for the March 21 event with fundraising activities on the day bringing a grand total of £1830 raised for Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

WDSD is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The aim is to raise awareness of Down’s syndrome and raise money to help people with the condition live full and rewarding lives.

A BT Thurso spokesperson said: "If team members didn’t have a chance to buy the socks then they wore odd or brightly coloured ones instead. The centre was full of fun and energy as everyone donned odd socks to celebrate the day."

The Thurso team went all out with their fundraising activities with home baking, a huge bottle stall and a raffle with "some fabulous prizes".

"It was great day and the centre are extremely proud of the £1830 raised," the spokesperson said.

The money raised will now be donated to Down’s Syndrome Scotland which provides support to people with the condition, their families and carers.

"It wouldn’t have been possible to have such a successful event without the support of everyone in the BT Centre and from local businesses in the county. We are so grateful for all the donations received."

The BT workers sent out a "big thanks" to Wick Academy FC, Wolfburn Distillery, Aaron’s Party Bus, Body and Soul, Donna’s Beauty Room, Northern Sands, Castletown Butchers, Castletown Chippy, A and L Motors, Fascination, Boogie Bounce, Cat’s Boxercise, The Salon, Messy Nessy, Macdonald’s Bakery and Merlin Cinema.
