A Thurso woman threw items of food at a police sergeant at Wick Police Station.

Carol Cowie admitted the assault and abusive behaviour when she appeared at Wick Sheriff Court.

She shouted and swore at police officers who arrested her, earlier on July 4, at her home in Bayview Terrace, Thurso.

The 55-year-old also uttered sectarian remarks during her 21-mile journey to Wick.

Cowie, who has a lengthy record of offending, will be sentenced on December 13 after Sheriff Neil Wilson considers a background report on her and hears mitigation from her solicitor Fiona MacDonald.
