A Thurso student has been put off the road after being caught driving without insurance.

Chloe Eddowes was disqualified for six months under the totting-up procedure after she appeared at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Eddowes was pulled over by police in Princes Street, Thurso in the late afternoon of November 19 last year.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said the first year psychology student had been driving her parents' car.

The 28-year-old, who is the main carer for her mother, had sought to insure herself via an app but accepts she did not have cover at the time.

Sheriff Neil Wilson imposed six penalty points which took her over the limit.

Eddowes, of Heathfield Road, was also fined £240 and has also to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
