COUNTRY music is set to return to Thurso after an enforced closure of 18 months following the coronavirus pandemic.

The first hoedown at the Northern Nashville Country Music Club (NNCMC) will take place at the town's Royal British Legion premises on Friday, September 24 although the programme will be shorter than usual.

NNCMC secretary, Leisa Swanson, is delighted the relaxing of rules means the music and dance industry can restart.

She stressed the club will run as normal although there will be some Covid-19 rules to follow.

 Face coverings must be worn on entering the Legion until you get to your seat.

 You must register for track and trace when you enter the club. This can be by a NNCMC membership card while non-members shall provide a contact address and phone number.

 Face coverings are not required when seated at your table or on the dance floor.

 Face covering are required when you go to the bar. The Legion has introduced a one-way system for entering and exiting the bar, which must be followed.

Leisa said: "Performing on the night will be the very talented and versatile Lenny Smith. Lenny is well known to NNCMC members, and indeed across the country music scene, as a solo performer and former member of the award-winning band, North Star. The doors will open at 8pm, music will begin at 9pm and cease at midnight.

"The club has a great line up for the rest of 2021, and the 2022 programme is almost fully booked too. Details of the acts appearing will be on the club’s Facebook page soon.

"We look forward to welcoming members and visitors back, on what’s sure to be a fun filled evening, to kick-start the return of live country music and dance."
