Thurso Youth Club will be the venue later this month for three events in one day – all with the aim of reducing waste.

The sessions are being run on Saturday, January 28, by Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) in partnership with the Highland Community Waste Partnership.

The first will be a Winter Warmers Swish – a chance for members of the public to come along and swap various items, such as duvets and jackets, that will help keep them warm this winter. It takes place from 10am until 1pm.

The second event is a Repair Café (2pm to 5pm), encouraging people to learn to fix items rather than simply throw them away. There will be different stations focusing on specific subjects, such as clothing repairs or bicycle repairs.

The last event of the day, from 7pm until 9pm, will be a draught excluder workshop. People will be taught to make their own draught excluders to cut down on energy costs while staying warm.

A draught excluder workshop will be the final event of the day.

TCDT is a member of the Highland Community Waste Partnership, acting across the Highlands, coordinated by Keep Scotland Beautiful and supported by National Lottery funding.

Waste partnership development officer Oksana Iatsiuta said: “The objective of the partnership is to reduce waste in Highland communities by changing our mindset about how we can make the most of what we have already got rather than buying new.

"We help individuals and businesses to waste less and actually save money while improving our environmental impact.”
