Thurso Salvation Army trio recognised for 160+ years’ combined service





Three Salvation Army stalwarts from Thurso Corps have been recognised for their long service – including one with over 60 years’ service.

The Chief Secretary of the Salvation Army’s United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Territory, Colonels Peter and Julie Forrest, were in Wick last weekend where the long service certificates and medals were handed over.

Thurso Corps closed on March 31 this year and the ladies transferred to Wick where they now join in worship.

Songster Leader Margaret Shortreed has had over 60 years’ service with the Salvos, 50 of them as Songster Leader at Thurso.

Helen Shearer had 51 years’ service in the senior band and songsters as well as various local officer positions in the Corps.

Christine Shearer had 50 years’ service in the band and was Songster Librarian for over 20 years.

They received Certificates of Recognition and Long Service Medals.
