A THURSO football team set up by Rangers fans recently made it into the Ibrox side’s history books by featuring in the club’s monthly magazine.

Sevens side Thurso Rangers featured in the September issue of the monthly magazine as it has been keeping alive the memory of one of the Blues’ most respected players.

The amateur squad, led by manager Alyn Gunn, once again held the annual Davie Cooper Cup over the summer in memory of the Rangers legend and Scotland international who died in 1995 of a brain haemorrhage.

“I am delighted that the club is now known worldwide and that the Davie Cooper Cup is getting the attention it rightly deserves,” said Mr Gunn.

“We have also received a signed football from Rangers for holding the event and my players will also be receiving autographs from the club soon.”

The Thurso team won the cup at the Naver all-weather pitch in July, beating Thurso Spartans 6-3.

The side got together four years ago and played several seasons in the amateur sevens league on the all-weather pitch.

After securing sponsors the players decided to put on a cup competition in memory of left-winger Cooper, one of the most respected players in Rangers’ history.
