YOUNGSTERS at Miller Academy in Thurso have been learning some practical skills while making four new 'Buddy benches' for their schoolmates.

Teacher David Hale was keen to get the primary five/six pupils involved in the project and was helped by volunteers and road crossing patroller, Ross Manson.

Head teacher Jacqui Budge said: "Mr Hale was very keen to get his class involved in making these and our Road Crossing Patroller Mr Manson volunteered to lead this with Mr Hale’s support.

"Our P5/6 class worked so well in teams to build a bench each, using all of the measuring and maths skills necessary in addition to the tools, which they were very excited about. They all initialled their benches on the underside to mark their work."

She added: "These four benches are going to be painted by Community Payback clients during our summer holidays so that they are ready for our use when we return in August. These will be placed in our lovely grounds for our children to use for social and lunch times when the weather allows".
