Green-fingered children at a Thurso primary school have been praised for their "amazing" work to keep the school grounds looking lovely during the most recent academic year.

Some of the pupils at Mount Pleasant Primary have been enthusiastically tending to the gardening at the school all year "for the benefit of their peers".

The children have volunteered their time during breaks and lunches to carry out additional duties, such as weeding, raking up the cut grass on the field and planting fruit bushes and flowers.

Suzanne Urquhart, the head teacher, said: “These children have been amazing, carrying out tasks to improve our school environment. We are lucky to have staff and children who care so much about our school grounds and improving them so that we can enjoy them more.”
