Thurso man sent ex ‘childish’ messages after split
A Thurso man who sent his partner "grossly offensive" text messages after they split up was fined £400 at Wick Sheriff Court.
Nicholas Smith (62) threatened to kill the woman’s two dogs in one text, and "throw their carcasses into the garden" if he didn't get access to them.
The couple were said to refer to the dogs as their “kids”.

Fiscal Depute Grant McLennan said that Smith, of Henderson Street, Ormlie, used derogatory terms referring to his former partner in one of the offensive messages.
Police officers attended at Smith's home in Henderson Street, Ormlie, and seized his mobile phone. He was subsequently charged.
Sheriff Neil Wilson, who saw a background report, said that the messages were "childish at best and upsetting at worst" for the woman and told Smith: "At your age, you should have known better".
The sheriff warned Smith, who pleaded guilty and admitted an offending record, that if there was any repetition of his conduct, the court would not be so lenient.
