POLICE have named the man who was killed in an industrial accident in Orkney as an engineer from Thurso.

Christopher Hartley (45) of Couper Square died when he was involved in an accident involving a digger at Longhope Pier on the Isle of Hoy at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening.

Ambulance services arrived at the scene but it is believed he died after sustaining crush injuries.

Reports have been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and the Health and Safety Executive.
